Imec opens photonics R&D facility in Florida

“As the US semiconductor market continues to strengthen with semiconductor manufacturing, equipment, materials and system innovation, we are pleased to collaborate with partner organisations in Florida and see Osceola County in the Orlando region as an interesting location to drive the next phase of imec’s growth and innovation,” said Luc Van den hove, pictured, imec’s president and CEO.

Imec Florida will be established as a design centre, linking imec’s headquarters in Belgium with US based semiconductor and system companies, universities, and research institutes. Imec Florida’s initial focus will be R&D into high speed electronics and photonics solutions, starting with IC design research for such applications as THz and LIDAR sensors and imagers.

The facility will be managed by imec vice president Bert Gyselinckx.
