Snapdragon 865 5G powers Galaxy S20 Series

The mobile platform feature a 5G Modem-RF System, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X55, and it is designed to deliver improved levels of connectivity and performance required by the next generation of immersive mobile devices.

“We are very proud to continue our longstanding collaboration with Samsung Electronics, which allows us to develop and deliver the most ground-breaking mobile technologies to consumers,” said Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager, mobile, Qualcomm Technologies. “The Galaxy S20 series, powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform in select regions, provides the most advanced connectivity and sophisticated capabilities available, and are raising the bar for what mobile devices should be.”

The Galaxy S20 series was designed to take advantage of the performance and efficiency improvements achieved by the Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. Delivering 15 TOPS of AI performance – 2x more powerful than its predecessor – the 5th generation Qualcomm AI Engine and new AI software tools will allow users to access the latest camera, audio, and gaming experiences available.

At the heart of the Qualcomm AI Engine is a new Hexagon Tensor Accelerator that has 4x the TOPS performance of the previous Tensor Accelerator, while operating at 35% greater power efficiency. In addition to the Qualcomm AI Engine, the new Sensing Hub enables these devices to be contextually aware of their surroundings while using extremely low power. Highly accurate voice detection helps ensure that requests are heard clearly, while enhanced, always-on sensors and intelligent sound recognition bring contextual AI to the next level.

Snapdragon 865’s ISP operates at speeds of up to 2 gigapixels per second and will provide these devices with brand-new camera features and capabilities, including 4K HDR capture with over a billion shades of colour, and 8K video capture.

Galaxy users will also be able to take advantage of gigapixel speeds to slow things down and capture details with high-definition slow-motion video capture at 960 fps. In tandem with the 5th generation Qualcomm AI Engine, the gigapixel speed ISP will allow these devices to quickly and intelligently identify different backgrounds, people and objects, so they can be treated individually for a truly customised photo.

The Snapdragon 865 is equipped with the Qualcomm Kryo 585 CPU, which, as part of these devices, delivers up to 25% performance improvement compared to the previous generation. Additionally, the new Adreno 650 GPU offers up to a 25% overall performance boost compared to the previous generations, while ensuring superior processing power for this next generation of flagship devices.

It is equipped with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System, which is the world’s first commercial modem-to-antenna 5G solution for consistent fast speeds across the board, with peak speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps. The comprehensive Modem-RF System approach will enable advanced technologies such as Qualcomm 5G PowerSave, Qualcomm Smart Transmit technology, Qualcomm Wideband Envelope Tracking technology and Qualcomm Signal Boost to help deliver improved coverage and data speeds along with support for extended battery life.
