IC distributors eyeing strong memory device demand in 2021
According to industry insiders, due to the strong demand for integrated circuit components (especially storage devices) in the coming year, Taiwan's IC distributors are expected to achieve sustained revenue growth in 2021. Due to the strong demand for Logic IC in the end market of devices supporting remote work and learning, major IC distributors including WPG Holdings, WT Microelectronics, Supreme Electronics, and Edom Technology, will reach a record high in 2020.

These companies are focusing on the demand for DRAM and NAND flash chips, especially for 5G mobile phones and servers in 2021. It is estimated that the global 5g mobile phone shipment will more than double from about 200 million in 2020 to 400-500 million in 2021, which will boost the demand for memory components.

They also added that Samsung has plans to increase memory sales by 10-15% in 2021, as it believes memory chip demand in 5G infrastructure, 5G mobile phones, servers and automotive electronics will increase significantly in the coming year. At present, the direct supply of memory components of iPhone 12 series is still relatively stable.

Demand for DRAM chips for server applications is expected to rebound in the first quarter of 2021, given that micron has raised its sales forecast for this quarter.
