Intel intends to hand over DG2 to TSMC's foundry

According to foreign media, Intel is under pressure on chip manufacturing and is considering outsourcing some high-end chips to TSMC or Samsung. The final plan is expected to be announced on the January 21st earnings analyst conference call. Whether to outsource to other manufacturers' foundry is still inconclusive, but there is news that Intel plans to hand over the second-generation discrete GPU to TSMC's foundry.

Intel's second-generation discrete GPU, is the DG2. As a chip giant, Intel has been leading the chip manufacturing process for a long time, but has gradually lost its advantage in recent years and is considering whether to outsource some of its flagship CPUs to other manufacturers.

According to sources familiar with the matter, this outsourcing will use a new chip manufacturing process from TSMC, which is said to be an enhanced version of the 7nm process. Considering outsourcing DG2 to TSMC's foundry is not the first time Intel and TSMC have cooperated in chip foundry. TSMC is currently the largest chip foundry and Intel’s main customer for outsourcing.
